Rock found on tracks in Odisha, driver’s swift move averts major derailment

A major train derailment was averted after a Vande Bharat Express train encountered a large rock on the tracks near Odisha’s Nuapada Road railway station on Sunday.
The rock obstructing the left side of the track, around 100 meters from the level crossing gate, was spotted by the loco pilot, who safely stopped the train and immediately alerted the station master.
The operations were resumed after the rock was removed from the tracks.
After receiving the news, Nuapada Police arrived at the spot and launched a probe to ascertain how the rock came to be on the tracks and whether any malicious intent was involved.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they seek to ensure the safety of railway operations in the area.
“We are investigating the matter from different angles. We have given the charge to the Nuapada police for further investigation in the nearest village. Police also visited the village to reveal the culprit who had done. No CCTV was there on the spot. After investigation, it will be clear who was there behind the scene,” said the railway official.
